You know those days when the weather in London is so miserable that even a quick dash to the corner shop feels like an Arctic expedition? Well, this story begins on one of those days.
My boyfriend and I were tucked up on the sofa, binge-watching re-runs of the last season of Stranger Things. Even the second time around, it’s still a thrilling story – we were completely hooked. The rain was coming down in sheets, the wind was howling, and the temperature had dropped to that perfect British ‘damp cold’ that seeps right into your bones. It was the kind of night made for one thing: comfort food. Specifically, popcorn and ice cream.
But there was a catch. Our cupboards were bare, and the nearest shop was just around the corner – a mere five-minute walk away. Easy, right? Wrong.
We debated whether we could just tough it out without our snacks, but the craving was too strong. So, out into the storm we went, bundled up in our coats and hoods, trying to convince ourselves that we were on some sort of grand adventure. Spoiler alert: it was not an adventure. By the time we got back, we were absolutely drenched, shivering, and our ice cream was in serious danger of turning into a milkshake. All for a couple of snacks.
As we sat there, soggy and slightly defeated, we started thinking about how ridiculous it was. Why, in a city as modern as London, did we have to go through all of this just to get a tub of ice cream and some popcorn?
And then it hit us – what if there was a way to get all our favourite treats without ever leaving the comfort of our home?
Fast forward a few months, and we found ourselves moving into a new apartment in a high-rise building. With 40 floors and hundreds of residents, it seemed like the perfect place to meet new people and build a little community. But here’s the thing: no one really knew each other. We’d pass our neighbours in the hall, maybe exchange a nod or a half-smile, but that was it. It felt like such a missed opportunity.
That’s when everything clicked. What if we could create a space that not only brought convenience to residents like us but also helped build connections between neighbours? A cosy little kiosk right in the building where people could grab their favourite snacks, meet their neighbours, and maybe even strike up a conversation. A place that made life easier and brought people together.
And just like that, Sunny Snug was born. It started as a way to avoid getting drenched for a tub of ice cream, but it’s grown into something much bigger.
We’re on a mission to bring a little more sunshine into people’s lives – one Snug at a time.
So, the next time the weather takes a turn for the worse (as it inevitably will in London), remember: there’s a better way to get your popcorn and ice cream. And who knows? You might just make a new friend while you’re at it.
